Net-Safe Beta launch on Heste-Nettet

After more than a year of planning and development Net-Safe was finally ready for a controlled beta launch on 23 February 2007. Even on a global level, Net-Safe is one of the first examples of a socalled "User Centric Identity Management" solution.

The goal is to offer the individual user better control and overview of his activity on the internet, including the option to act anonymously or under pseudonyms (virtual identities) in different contexts.

Net-Safe have been developed to support identity related services on a fully international basis. The initial beta will, however, be conducted exclusively with existing users of the internet community Heste-Nettet, the major Danish portal for persons interested in horses.

Net-Safe provides Single Signon (SSO) to multiple websites using the OASIS SAML2 protocol, which has been selected as the future standard for Single Signon to public websites in several countries. Additionally users of Net-Safe may issue electronic identity cards, InfoCards, with validated information for login to Net-Safe and other websites supporting the new Microsoft Cardspace technology.

User registration includes phone and email validation as well as lookup in various public registers. In consistence with modern privacy principles Net-Safe avoids the use of public social security numbers to the furthest extent possible. Once registered, users have full and granular control of what information they wish to submit to specific portals and websites.

Support for I-names will be added later in 2007. Inames offer several advantages compared to a traditional userID and will provide users of Net-Safe access to thousands of portals and webpages implementing the upcoming OpenID2 standard.

Other updates to Net-Safe will include personal inventory and trade management.
